what to wear to a party feature image

You’re invited! Now what? We break down what to wear to a party.

Invites are rolling in and we know there are some top parties to be at this season. On that list, of course, is our Gotstyle Man Issue #3 party. Each party and event has its own dress code, and our party is no exception. It’s our mission to educate and be that reminder of how to dress like a gentleman with flair at every occasion.

Our theme “50 shades of blue” represent our love and support for our home baseball team and of course our cover model and Toronto Blue Jays player Kevin Pillar. Here are some inspirations that work with our theme because we understand not everybody knows what to wear to a party. Or even if you do, it can still be a bit of a challenge to pick an outfit.

20’s

You’re wild and free. Go for something to reflect that like a patterned blazer. Balance it out with a solid polo shirt- it’s more sophisticated than a t-shirt. We know you will probably want to avoid feeling too stuffy so pair it with joggers from Zanerobe and fresh leather sneakers. Don’t get too casual- this isn’t the time for flip flops.

Outfit details: Blue Industry – Polka Dot Jersey Blazer $349Neighburr – Concentric Circles 6-Panel Hat $74, Sand – Drake P Solid Polo $150, Zanerobe – Salerno Chino $140, Selected Homme – Leather Sneaker $160, Nixon – Time Teller Watch $120

30’s

The 20’s are for following trends, in your 30’s you’ve started to or have developed your own style. If you haven’t, it’s time to start stepping outside the box and show your personal style. White dress shirts can work beyond the office and looks great with a pair of crisp shorts. Skip the tie for a more relaxed look but don’t forget to keep it classy with a blazer. They’re versatile and doubles as lightweight outerwear. If you decide to take it off, feel free to roll up your sleeves.

Outfit Details: NYFS – Large Glen Check Peak Lapel Wool Blazer $700, GS Launch – Basic Dress Shirt $95, Individual – Bermuda Micro Neat Short $105, Anderson’s – Pebbled Leather Belt $160, Ted Baker – Miicke 2 Nubuck Leather Loafers $220, Nixon – Sentry 38 SS Watch (Blue Sunray) $235

40’s

Kick it up a notch with a tuxedo. This isn’t just your run of the mill black tie attire, DALLA elevates evening wear with micro dot print and a velvet lapel. It’s luxury at it’s best. Since it’s not a black tie affair, we invite you to wear a pima cotton t-shirt for a bit of a rock ‘n’ flair. The jacket does a lot of talking so the rest of the outfit can be pretty simple. The loafers add a small punch of colour and it’ll definitely have people complimenting you on them.

Outfit details: Dalla – Velvet Shawl Lapel Tuxedo $1,299, Selected Homme – Pima Cotton Crew Neck T-Shirt $30, Nixon – Monopoly Watch $275, Tiger Of Sweden – Vince XO Slipper $239

50’s

At this point in your life, you know what you want and who you are, and that attitude reflects in your wardrobe. The micro floral print on the shirt and coloured trousers add some fun to the outfit. By adding the solid blazer and leather dress shoes, it keeps the outfit sophisticated and classy.

Ultimately this is a rough guide meant to inspire you. Style has no age and limits. We encourage you to explore and develop your own personal style. We’ll be there with you along the ride to offer some guidance and advice!
