Sorry to break it to you guys but high school is over, which means like your education its time to graduate your style. The stakes are higher and your competition more aggressive. You can’t just talk the talk you gotta walk the walk. Which is why we’ve put together another great back to school style guide to help you steer clear of those juvenile graphic tees, dirty jeans and comical knapsacks. It’s time to say goodbye to the boy you were and say hello to man you’re about to become! Because we all know you got to dress better, to do better.

Gotstyle recently teamed up with Robert Cribb and The Toronto Star to host Mankind’s inaugural man-makeover contest. The contest required people to write to us expressing why they or in many cases their spouses needed a dramatic head-to-toe makeover. After pouring through 100’s of letters both Founder Melissa Austria and Robert Cribb found their lucky winner, Daniel Rocchi.

Daniel, a father of two and a drama teach openly revealed to us that he’s a living, breathing Value Village mannequin. Nearly every piece of apparel attached to his body on the day we spoke could be traced back to the shelves and racks of the Villages. Now there’s nothing wrong with Value Village as a haberdasher. But as the winner of Mankind’s inaugural man makeover contest proves, real money spent on something fresh delivers a lift to male confidence and cool.

This is where we stepped in to give Daniel a $1000 Gotstyle makeover- the end result? Press play below and then click here to read the full story behind Daniels transformation.

A lot of guys come to us complaining about how they can never find anything that fits them when they go to the “other” stores. Fortunately for them we’ve got an owner that has made it her life’s mission to scour the world to find those very brands that will fit them just right. Whether you’re 6’4 and 260 lbs like Billy here or 5’7 and 140 lbs like our good friend Reggie, we’ve got something just for you.

If you’re big and tall we recommend checking out brands like Circle of Gentlemen, Blue Industry and Benson. They offer a great fit while still giving that sleek tailored look. Also, who says big guys can’t wear colour or patterns? When the fit is right you can pretty much do anything- here is proof.

Circle of Gentlemen Blazer: $750 – Circle of Gentlemen Check Shirt: $275 – Doro Lapel Flower $19 – Hudson Francis Brogue Shoes: $185

If you’re short and slim we recommend brands like Tiger of Sweden  and J. Lindeberg. Both these brands offer a modern European fit that is great for people with a trim stature. The shorter blazer helps elongate your body as do the skinny jean. Don’t forget that nothing fits perfect off the shelf especially when you’re short. So make sure to hem your pants and jacket sleeve appropriately to complete the look.

Nudie Grim Tim Jeans: $179 – Hudson Weave Derby Shoe: $175 – Tiger of Sweden DB Blazer: $599 – Paolo Verri Bright Stripe Shirt: $145

You can’t have a conversation about legendary radio personalities without mentioning these guys- Humble & Freda Toronto-based Canadian radio show, featuring co-hosts “Humble” Howard Glassman and Fred Patterson, has aired on a variety of Canadian radio stations since 1989. These guys are the definition of Canadian radio royalty.

Though the industry has been good to their careers it hasn’t been that good to their personal style. Satisfied with relaxed jeans and polos just doesn’t cut it, especially when you invite founder Melissa Austria on the show to talk about her passion for menswear. Armed with sportcoats, tailored jean and some great shirts Melissa arrived on set determined to breath new life into the boys wardrobe. The end result, this awesome before/after makeover.
