GOTSTYLE MAN

“It’s the same look I got from people over 10 yrs ago when I said I wanted to open a menswear store. They said retail is dying; soon people will only be shopping on-line; men don’t care how they dress; you can’t compete with the big guys; you don’t know anything about running a business; you’re crazy!

They say the same things about launching a magazine – print is dead; no one reads anymore and if they do it’s only on a kindle or iPad; you can’t compete with established publishers; you don’t know anything about running a magazine; you’re crazy.

Call me old fashion, but to me there is still something special about holding a book in my hands or flipping through the pages of a magazine (and tearing out the pages I love or the items I want). I have things on my kindle, but I never go back to them to reference or re-read. They certainly never become part of my library or my home.

I feel the same way when it comes to specialty stores and restaurants. I love going to my neighborhood spots where everyone knows my name (or at least engages me with welcoming conversation). Not everything has to change as the world moves faster.

We can embrace change and still hold on to the familiar things we love. Gotstyle Man is an extension of the store. It’s an educational, informative, and inspirational guide to obtainable style for every man. At its core, it’s a celebration of the city we love and the men who make it great.

As we continue to show the naysayers wrong with our 10 year anniversary celebration, the successful opening of our second location and the launch of our on-line store, we thank everyone who supported us through the years. I can hardly wait to see what the next 10 years will look like, but I know they will be bigger and better than ever. This magazine is a testament to all that is possible when you believe in your vision and are fortunate enough to live in an amazing city with amazing people that bring it to life.” – Melissa Austria, GOTSTYLE FOUNDER

CONTEST

The 2015 Pan Am & Parapan Am games are fast approaching and as the host city we’re looking forward to welcoming the world to our multicultural melting pot also known as Toronto. This year marks so many great milestones both for this city, and the Gotstyle brand. In the last 10 years Toronto has established itself as one of the best cities in the world, in those same 10 years Torontonians have helped propel us to grow to become one of the best menswear retailers in North America. To help celebrate this amazing year and everything that makes this city so incredible we brought you our Gotstyle Loves Toronto T-Shirt Design Contest. The grand prize- to have your design printed on Gotstyle t-shirts, a $1000 cash prize, and a feature on the Gotstyle website.

After receiving over 300 submissions we’ve finally riddled it down to one talent that truly captured the essence of our brand and the sentiment behind the “Gotstyle Loves Toronto” concept. We’re excited to announce that that winner of our Gotstyle Loves Toronto t-shirt design contest is none other than Eno a 27 years old freelance designer who submitted this amazing design.

Note t-shirts will be available early July, 2015.

STYLE TIPS

Every now and then there comes along an event that requires you to really step it up. The invite says “creative fashionable formal” but what does that really mean? Do you wear a full out tuxedo, do you jazz up a pair of jeans and blazer, what do you do? Well, for starters whenever you hear the word “formal” you should erase the word “denim”. Second reach out to our stylists to help guide you the rest of the way.

To better understand what “creative fashionable formal” really means, we got our stylists Nicole, Shae, Jenya and Sharad to put together looks that they’d recommend to their clients. These looks are as diverse as they come and hopefully give you some great ideas on how you can dress formal without losing your personality.

MAKEOVER

You can’t have a conversation about legendary radio personalities without mentioning these guys- Humble & Freda Toronto-based Canadian radio show, featuring co-hosts “Humble” Howard Glassman and Fred Patterson, has aired on a variety of Canadian radio stations since 1989. These guys are the definition of Canadian radio royalty.

Though the industry has been good to their careers it hasn’t been that good to their personal style. Satisfied with relaxed jeans and polos just doesn’t cut it, especially when you invite founder Melissa Austria on the show to talk about her passion for menswear. Armed with sportcoats, tailored jean and some great shirts Melissa arrived on set determined to breath new life into the boys wardrobe. The end result, this awesome before/after makeover.
