This is definitely turning into a year that keeps on giving. Now in its 17th year, the PROFIT/Chatelaine W100 just named Founder/Owner Melissa Austria as one of their Top Female Entrepreneurs in Canada!
“You need a bold vision, an innovative strategy and loads of tenacity to earn a spot on the W100,” said James Cowan, Editor-‐in-‐chief of PROFIT and Canadian Business. “Every person on this list represents the pinnacle of business success in Canada. Their stories are inspiring and instructive for those seeking to excel as an entrepreneur.”
Published in the June issue of Canadian Business and online at PROFITguide.com and chatelaine.com, the W100 is Canada’s largest annual celebration of entrepreneurial achievement by women. Ranking Canada’s Top Female Entrepreneurs is a composite score based on the size, growth rate and profitability of their businesses. Simply said Melissa kicked ass!
“To be included in this list is an unbelievable honour, to be in this list in the same year as we celebrate our 10 year anniversary… that’s incredible!” – Owner/Founder Melissa Austria

Big thanks to the Riva Richmond, Director of Digital Media at The Story Exchange for her awesome feature on our Founder Melissa Austria. For those of you unfamiliar with The Story Exchange they are a nonprofit media organization dedicated to telling the personal and professional stories of women business owners. As a women in a “man’s world” this feature is both an honour and poignant reminder of everything Melissa has accomplished in her entrepreneurial life. Compound that with the fact that we’re celebrating out 10yr anniversary and this story only solidifies that women do mean business.

I Can’t believe it’s been 10 years. When I look back at my first piece of marketing material (with hopeful aspirations that we would be open in the Fall of 2004) it feels like yesterday that I was planning my dream store, that would be “a one-stop shopping oasis for men…with clothes to get them laid in…complete with a men’s only spa…in a bachelor pad environment”. I’m thankful that I was too naive to realize that a 5,000 sq foot, buzz to get in, second floor walk up store, might not have been the best idea (amongst other mistakes) but I knew I hit a core with men in this city, wanting to dress better. 10 years, and lots of stress later, we now have two thriving stores, an on-line business, strong social presence, an amazing team, great customers who continue to support us and the ability to breathe! I can’t wait for the next 10 years…..
