The 2016 iHeartRadio MuchMusic Video Awards are almost here!

No longer known as the MMVAs, Much announced the renaming of one of the world’s biggest street parties and music award show to prep for the next step in introducing iHeartRadio into Canada later this year.

As always, Much never fails to round-up the world’s fastest-rising performers to grace their stage. This year’s line-up of performances includes Canadian singer-songwriter, Alessia Cara, hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Nick Jonas, Shawn Mendes, Hedley, Fifth Harmony, Tegan & Sara, and Hailey Steinfeld.

Joining the 2016 iHeartRadio MMVAs is international style icon and supermodel, Gigi Hadid. After her MMVA debut last year as an award presenter, Gigi returns as a host, alongside returning E! and Much personalities, Tyrone Edwards (@mr1loveto) and Liz Trinnear (@liztrinnear).

Of course, we can’t forget about one of the most anticipated events of any award show – the Red Carpet Event. This year, it will be hosted by Much Digital Studios creator and YouTube comedian, Jus Reign along with blogger and E!’s Chloe Wilde (@thechloewilde). With more than 700,000 YouTube subscribers, Jus Reign is notorious for his pop-culture parodies (get a taste of his humour on his YouTube channel here).

To get ready for the award show, iHeartRadio MMVA stylist, Katie Tobin shares her style tips and dresses Tyrone and Jus Reign at Gotstyle in the videos below. It’s not the first time Jus Reign has rocked Gotstyle. He’s been in our TOM* Fashion Week’s FASHION4HOPE celebrity runway show!

If you want to attend the red carpet, you can line up at the north-west corner of Richmond and John Street no earlier than 12pm on Sunday, June 19. Queen Street will also be open to the public (all ages welcome) on the night of the show – the line-up begins at the north-west corner of Queen and John Street no earlier than 12pm.

If that’s not your style, the iHeartRadio MMVAs airs live this Sunday, June 19 on Much, CTV, and Much.com at 8pm E.T.

Iconic Polo Shirt Feature Image

As the weather gets warmer, we highly recommend you to consider adding the polo shirt, a smarter version of the t-shirt, to your wardrobe.

History

The polo shirt has a strong history and has always been a symbol of sportsmanship and sophistication. During the roaring twenties, tennis players wore what was known as “tennis whites”. This consisted of a white, long-sleeved button-down shirt, long pants, and a tie. Jean Rene Lacoste was a renowned tennis player who won 10 Grand Slam titles felt it was too stiff to wear tennis whites. He noticed what polo players (hence the term polo shirts) were wearing in London and quickly got his own tailor to make some for himself. Once he retired, he started to create his own line of clothing and the polo shirt quickly rose to popularity. Soon other brands such as Fred Perry and Ralph Lauren entered the market. It was no longer an athletic uniform but a fashionable shirt to wear outside of sports.

How to Style the Polo Shirt

  • For a preppy/old Hollywood look pair them with chinos or pressed trousers, loafers and shades. Feel free to wear it with a blazer or sportcoat as an alternative to a dress shirt. It’s relaxed and casual.
  • For a rocker vibe go for ones with stripes, patterns, checks, and those muted ice-cream colors. Pair them with skinny trousers, jeans or shorts and always roll up your trousers for a cooler vibe. To play with styles switch up shoes: loafers, sandals, oxfords, sneakers. No boots.

If you open your phone, do you have 20 selfies that are all basically the same? Do you check yourself in the mirror AND your camera phone? If so, this might be perfect for you.

The day has finally come where you are able to make cash for those everyday selfies we all secretly love to take. The Chicago-based company, Pay Your Selfie, launched their app last September and is the first to allow everyday people to earn cold cash for their selfies. App users are able to earn 20 to 40 cents per selfie, and up to $1 if you pose with a brand. Once your digital piggy bank hits $20, you are able to cash out and receive a cheque in the mail, or donate it to a charitable organization of your choice.

It allows brands an opportunity to target one of the most influential target demographic of today – the millennials. They team up with brands who are seeking consumer insight, as well as consumer engagement to create a selfie task that meets their objectives.

When you download the app, you tap the pig to see a list of these selfie tasks, and once a task of your choice is selected, you follow the selfie instruction, post your selfie and get paid!

Brands such as Crest toothpaste and Goose Island Beer are among the first to engage in this app and the consumer insight collected has sparked interest for other brands. Pay Your Selfie co-founder Kristen Holman says that they found an unexpectedly large amount of people are brushing their teeth from 4pm-6pm; information which Crest toothpaste can use in their future advertising. The app is currently only available in the U.S. but we hope it arrives to Canada soon.

More than 100 million selfies are taken daily, and it certainly is not a trend that will be fading anytime soon, so why not earn some extra pocket money doing what you already do? Head over to AdWeek to learn more.
