Haight & Ashbury shirt, $75

John Varvatos shirt, $185

Luke Smith shirt, $195

You know I’m a huge fan of getting guys to tuck in their shirts in when they go out a night (it’s a more sophisticated and neater look), but I will admit that when it’s hot like this outside… it’s OK to un-tuck your shirt. Provided that’s it’s meant to do so, meaning it’s a shorter cut shirt (so it doesn’t hang past your ass), it should have a finishing detail on the side and should be more of a looser relaxed cut.

Don’t get me wrong – I meant loose, not boxy. What’s the diff? Loose will allow some air circulation so you don’t have too much fabric touching your skin (icky, especially when you start to sweat), but the garment will still have some shape to it. Boxy is just boxy with no shape to it!

We’ve got some new shirts in from Haight & Ashbury, John Varvatos and Luke Simon (new NY-based designer) that have been approved for un-tucking. Do not try this at home with your regular dress shirts please!

If you’ve ever seen the Valentino movie, The Last Emperor, you know that Marlboro Classics comes from the same corporate company. It’s an Italian brand that does some great casual wear – especially cotton blazers and shirts.

Why the name? Europeans love Americana (Tommy Hilfiger is huge there!) and Marlboro Classics has that rugged, masculine Clint Eastwood feel to it. So nothing to do with the cigarettes! The brand is for my bigger guys, but it is European so an XXL is not like an American XXL.

See the Marlboro Classics website.

What’s New: SAND

April 3, 2010

Sand blazers, $595 (tuxedo, $795)

SAND dress shirts, from $195 to $225

While SAND is one of those labels that doesn’t need an introduction, a reminder is always suitable.

This spring their line has a great emphasis on detail – just check out the inner detailing on the collar/cuffs of their dress shirts.

Their blazers – tuxedo or regular jacket – have a fit that many find hard to replicate. They’re also trimmed shorter for a modern cut, and the quality is consistent with what they’re known best for.

Don’t forget to check out Melissa’s spring trends videos to the different styles & impact on the details.
