What’s New: SAND

August 9, 2010

Celebrating 25 years in business, SAND continues to become stronger and stronger with each collection. Our first delivery for Fall offers great pieces that you can wear now and into the cooler months:

1. The perfect slim fit oxford shirt in green and blue – darted both in the front and back for you guys that have worked out all summer. I love oxford shirts because they are such a beefy fabric with substance and they look better worn in. Part of the preppy revival (but really they’re a classic item every guy should have a few of, the fit just makes them better).

2. Cotton blazers – wear them for those cool summer nights now over a t-shirt or henley, then wear them in the fall over a buffalo plaid shirt and knit tie. TIP: Stop wearing hoodies when you go out and throw on a cotton blazer instead = instant style upgrade.

3. Alternative pants – In Europe all the well dressed guys are wearing chinos (rolled at the bottom) I’m kind of over denim (yawn) and really think guys need to expand past the comfort zone of just jeans. A good way to start is with the SAND black 5 pocket pant – it’s kind of a jean / dress cotton pant hybrid. Lends itself to be worn with both your most casual or dressy looks.

4. Check shirts – a nice break from the stripes, roll the sleeves up now and show off the contrast cuff, wear them layered under a sweater in the Fall.

Based on a lot of requests, we’ve ordered in Christopher Bates‘ dark denim jeans ($350) and the scorpion mesh tanktop ($129) from our LG Fashion Show last year.

The self titled menswear line is a Vancouver based clothing line that takes inspiration from Christopher’s travels & study of European menswear in Italy.

Gotstyle Dress Shirts

Gotstyle dress shirts, $165

Our in-house dress shirts will give you that in-between season pick up that you need – fabrics are light weight enough to wear now, in colors that will take you into the Fall. The fit? Of course they are darted in the back for a trim fit but not so trim that you can’t wear them to work. Priced at $165.

What’s New: House of Gods

House of Gods, Mick Jagger & Pink Floyd tees,$75-85

Buddhistpunk has collaborated both professionally and privately for artists as diverse as Schooly D, The Prodigy, The Gossip, Gary Numan, The Rolling Stones, Blondie, Guns and Roses, Aerosmith, Kylie, Britney Spears, U2, Ian Astbury, Iggy Pop, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Roxy Music, Run DMC, David Bowie, The Police and many more.

They started House of Gods in 2006 to take advantage of being the most integrated fashion house within the Rock & Roll industry. They continue in the great tradition of Rock & Roll garments and band t’s but develope their own singular style of original artwork and reinventing iconic imagery. Priced between $75 & $85.

What’s New: Religion

We have carried Religion off and on since we opened, and now we’re back on since they’ve moved passed the goth and skulls stage to a more sophisticated yet edgy club wear. The must have item for Fall? A midnight blue denim jacket ($185) that you are going to wear day into evening and if you can’t afford THE must have leather jacket by Christian Dior, Religion did an inspired version at 1/4 the price at $575.

On the weekend I started re-watching How to Make it in America, the new, highly addictive HBO series. The show focuses on Ben and Cam, two up-and-comers with dreams to make it big with their streetwear line, Crisp NYC. It’s only 8 episodes in, so you have time to jump on the bandwagon!

In the second episode, Ben and Cam run into legendary clothing designer John Varvatos, who politely offers them a chance to sit and talk with him. The guy is midas – on screen, off camera, and in his work.

Much like the show, the new Varvatos-wear is just as addictive. We’ve happily carried the fashion forward brand for years, based on great styling & details, perfect fit and quality construction. New in store are a whole assortment of shirts, vests, jackets, sweaters, blazers, and pants for this fall. Be sure to stop in and take a look!

Fall 2010 Preview: I.AM

July 12, 2010

Taking a page (literally) from our Fall Bible, lets get your feet wet with our upcoming pieces for this Fall.

The new Fall 2010 collection in Will.I.Am’s clothing line I.AM hasn’t even hit the internet yet, but we already know that the vests and jackets next season are going to be a favourite. Here’s a scan from the Fall Bible of the I.AM vests (with a shawl lapel and chain) and one of their many jackets & other items we have scheduled to arrive soon!

When you need to look cool when it’s hot outside… go for linen. It absorbs moisture (sweat) quickly so you feel dry, and it allows heat to escape so you feel cooler. But if you do linen, don’t do it wimpy – go for bold colors like the new SAND linen shirt in rich jewel tones that will make you stand out and look cool.
