Okay gentlemen, we are always here to educate and inform. A lot of you have come to us for advice and we always believe it’s good to start off with a good foundation. There are a lot of basics that are required in your off-duty wardrobe. We’ve noticed that some don’t know how to dress for lunch with your friends or drinks at a bar. Places where you don’t need to be dressed to the nines but you still want to look good. Here is a list of 10 casual menswear pieces you need right now.
1. Joggers
This is a fad turned trend turned must-have. It’s the most comfortable style of pant you can own. It’s easy to style with a t-shirt and bomber. Remember to keep the fit modern but not too tight. Our customer’s #1 favourite is the joggers from Zanerobe. It’s soft, high-quality and comes in a variety of different colours and patterns.
2. Blazer/sport coat
Too many men aren’t wearing blazers outside of business social settings. Feel free to wear it as a lightweight outerwear piece instead of grabbing a sweater. Wear it to brunch with your family or girlfriend, wear it to the bar or restaurant or even to a club. Unless it’s a sport related function, there’s not really a reason why you can’t wear a blazer. It also comes in a variety of fabrics that can make you feel less stuffy,
3. Basic Tee
Definitely a must. A good quality tee can last you more than 3 washes and other people will notice. It also doesn’t fade or lose shape. Tees are easy to wear, layer it under another tee, a blazer, bomber with dark denim or joggers. It’s a relaxed piece that can be styled for the day or night. Since it’s a go-to for a lot of gents out there, it’s had a big upgrade. There are different colours, textures, lengths, and cuts.
4. Pair of classic leather shoes
It should be a no-brainer. You’re on your feet a lot in a lifetime. Why not treat your feet to a high-quality pair of shoes? It’s a must to have a good pair of classic shoes that outlasts any trend and goes with any outfit. Don’t forget that dress shoes aren’t only for suits. They go well with trousers and dark denim. We offer our very own line of Gotstyle shoes. We’ve done our research and these are Goodyear welted so the sole can be replaced for decades.
5. Fun shoes
Now that you’ve got a classic pair of shoes, get a pair of fun shoes. These will be great for a party or just about anytime you really want to dress to impress. Let’s face it, first impressions are crucial and these will you get people talking- in a good way.
6. Polo
Ah- the true classic. Polo shirts had a bad rep for a while but we promise you that they’ve redeemed themselves. Brands like Ted Baker and Blue Industry have breathed a new life with different patterns and colours. There’s one to match everyone’s style and it makes it look less golf club-y. Wear it untucked or better yet, tucked with a pair of chinos and belt. Throw on a blazer to stay in our good books.
7. Shorter swim shorts
Okay guys, this one is important. We know that summer doesn’t last long and you’re going to hoard that same swim short you’ve had 4 years ago. The problem is that there’s a big chance that it’s oversized, long and/or baggy. Yikes. It doesn’t do very much for you and we promise that going shorter will look so much better.
8. A hat
Since the luxe athleisure trend blew up, it’s impossible to spot people not wearing a hat. We invite you to jump on the waggon. If you’re not into sports memorabilia, we highly recommend a clean monochromatic hat. It keeps you on trend, especially for those somewhat lazy days (we aren’t commending it but we understand it), without looking too flashy. Neighburr is a new Canadian brand and everyone is loving their line of hats.
9. Printed short sleeve button up
It’s the summertime. Stop wearing old graphic tees and update your wardrobe with some printed short sleeve button ups. Like the polo, it comes in a variety of colours and patterns so you’re bound to find one that fits you. The important thing is to keep the fit modern and don’t go for an oversized look- it just doesn’t work. Hawaiian shirts have also made a comeback and don’t even dare to wear it with a pair of cargo shorts. Go for shorts without pockets or a pair of slim fit jeans.
10. Striped Tee
You got the basic tee, now get a striped one. Stripes aren’t a new thing but right now we are feeling thin stripes. We want to avoid looking oversized so say no to big stripes and make sure the fit is right. It makes for a good basic and easy to throw on for some extra style points.
