Love him or hate him, you can’t deny Kanye’s got a way with fashion. What’s the secret to his styling? When it comes to colours, he tends to stick with neutral ones like camel, black and khaki. The real magic happens when he makes bold moves and experiments with layering, textures like leather or velour. We highlighted some of the elements that make up Kanye’s style and created three looks for you showcased in the video below. Scroll down to see the breakdown of each outfit.
One element that we see in a lot of what Kanye wears is military inspired pieces, which means lots of army green and camo print. This jacket from Zadig & Voltaire with big cargo pockets is perfect, and the key is to go up a size so it’s not too structured. The final touch is the distressed denim. It adds a roughness to the outfit to contrast the jacket.
Kanye adds a lot of character in his outfits with oversized tees and distressed detailing. His outerwear does a lot of the talking so the Scrapes & Gravel bomber really channel that. The Vitaly tee adds some texture and is sized up to create the oversized look. What completes it is the Zanerobe’s ripped denim with a drop crotch.
The last things we want to highlight are statement outerwear and layering. Kanye knows how to put these two together. When it comes to outerwear, size up and/or choose one with length. The Rains jacket is ideal because its long and lightweight which makes it comfortable when wearing layers. This is crucial because layering is the ultimate key in Kanye’s style. Look for elongated tees that are also aren’t heavy in fabrication so wearing more than one doesn’t get too bulky. Try shirts from One Meth or Faded Lifestyle which are made of bamboo and cotton.

Men who are confident with their masculinity can get away with wearing more feminine pieces and still be sexy. Lenny Kravitz is going through a boot and scarf phase, two pieces that are usually reserved for the ladies. However, he still oozes masculine sexuality. Which explains his reputation as a rock and roll ladies’ man.
After five platinum albums, he’s got the creativity behind him to back up his totally individual and eclectic look. Even if you don’t have a platinum album you can still get his look.
If your wardrobe doesn’t have Lenny’s rocker look already, start with skinny jeans, a good leather jacket, and some basic tops including t-shirts, undershirts, and casual button-up shirts. To take it further, add some neutral scarves, aviator sunglasses and simple accessories like dog tags, rings, or a really nice pair of leather boots.
Over the years, Kravitz has reinvented his style many times. he’s tried everything from fur, dreadlocks, leather, heeled boots, and lots of rocker blacks. Even if you don’t like his current style, he shows us that men don’t have to be afraid to make mistakes and try things out.
He’s had his questionable fashion moments, like the time he wore these leather boots with a wedge heel. He’s not the first rocker to use shoes to gain height, though.
Is there any guy who does modern American fashion as well as Kanye West?
